Commissioners' Column
by Reince Priebus and Chad Volkert

The first rule (Rule 12) that needs to be instilled in all of the rookie 1Ls is that the games will go on in the rain.

Rule 12.2(b)
If your laying in bed and hear the pitter patter of raindrops on the roof, do not relax, because your teammates are probably cursing you out for not showing up to play some softball.

Rule 12.3
If you look out of your window and notice large amounts of water streaming down out of the sky, get dressed, because your probably playing softball.

Rule 12.4
If you can play football in the rain, you can play softball.
The Commissioners were confronted with their first major decision of the year. At 8:00 a.m. the rain was coming down strong, thunder was bellowing and flashes of lightning were filling the dark sky with life. Would the games continue? What would the Commissioners do? After a lengthy conference and a full inspection of Lambeau Field South, the Commissioners decided to call the first games, not because of the rain (see Rule 12), but because of Rule 12.4. With Lightning flashing through the sky, and with law students holding lightning rods (bats) the early games were called.

But the Commissioners took the heat and tempers flared. Harvey Cohen ripped into Commissioner Reince Priebus and told him that Hangover was prepared to do battle. So, now Hangover will have to prepare for 8:45 a.m. games each and every week for showing no deference to the Commissioners.

The 10:00 and 11:15 games were played and Supergold didn't waste any time and became the first team to get to a 2-0 start. After taking care of business and defeating CWB 20-0, the marquee match-up was set on field 2 where the Alumni Team met their first challenge of the year - Supergold. In that game, Zabel, Celler and Militzok scored 7 of their 12 runs. The power of those first three batters may become a nightmare for opposing teams.
The word is out, Reince Priebus and Skip Sullivan may not be the only shortstops in the league. Tom "out of nowhere" Scolaro may be hosting a clinic on how to field the short hop. Supergold handed the Alumni Team their first loss 12-3, pulling out the first upset of the year.

Whitebread started out as strong as we all expected, banging the ball in every direction. This lineup is definitely the strongest in the field, but if rumors are correct, a team can win if the ball is kept hard and on the ground, exposing a questionable defense. Whitebread allowed the Carbozos to score 6 runs, but perhaps the 16 that were scored by Whitebread lulled the "big guns" into complacency.

The rain stole the spotlight away from 1L sensation, Ambulance Chasers. This 1L team captained by Rob Potosky(who can get some press without even playing a game), is ready to go - maybe next week guys. We like what we see in the Ambulance Chasers. This team was practicing on Friday, getting ready for the season opener. We admire teams who take the game almost as serious as we do.

The other 1L teams are regrouping after combining their teams with others in order to for a more perfect 1L softball team. Sex Appeal (formally team *3) is making some under the table acquisitions and forming a new sexier team that will included players that were stolen from other teams on Sunday. These teams will all be ready to go once again when the softball league continues on a hopefully dry Sunday next week. Chad Volkert promises no rain and is taking bets on the weather. Right now partly cloudy is paying three to one.
